Six days to cross the Pacific? It always looked so quick in Raiders of the Lost Ark …
Hopping across the ocean / SFO throwing party for fondly remembered ‘flying boats’:
“They flew 150 miles per hour and took six days to reach the Far East from the Bay Area, and everyone thought that was simply marvelous. They were Pan American Airways’ famous Clipper planes, and they flew headlong into aviation history 70 years ago this month, inaugurating the now-thriving business of intercontinental aviation.”

When I worked at Bank of Marin/Westamerica there was this old guy who came in to cash his pension check with me all the time. He told me that he used to fly planes and said he’d bring some pictures in sometime. One day he brought in the pictures.
Wow! He was the first guy to fly his Pan-Am clipper under the Golden Gate Bridge with pictures to prove it!
