Proof positive that no good deed goes unpunished.
Major Nelson’s webpage, written by an employee of the XBox Live division at Microsoft, has been an incredible source of insider information to the gaming public. At least, it used to be. See, a few weeks ago a game manufacturer announced that a demo of a popular game (as in, free to the public) was ready to be launched on Xbox live. Well, that seemed to be news to Microsoft and, as of this post, it still hasn’t launced yet.
Hell hath no fury as a 14-year-old-boy-with-an-Xbox scorned …
So, every post Major’s done in the past week has been littered with comments saying “Where’s the Prey demo? Where’s the Prey demo? WHERE’S THE PREY DEMO???!!!” His last post, concerning a charity sale for Katrina Victims, had about 10% comments related to the article, and 90% whining about this mystery demo. Yeah, because losing everything in a hurricane doesn’t compare to having to wait a couple of weeks for a free game …
Sigh. So, most likely, all this belly-aching will persuade MJ to stop blogging altogether. We’ll lose one of the most interesting blogs and podcasts dedicated to the Xbox around. Vast hordes of adolecent gamers will have to find some other outlet for their frustration. And the Prey demo won’t come out one second sooner.
Know what? I hope that game really sucks …
When game publishers or developers promise Marketplace content by a certain date…I cringe. Why? Because getting a game through the certification process is very complex, and often those promising the content by a certain date are not fully aware of all the pieces involved in bringing content to the Marketplace..and then when the content does not appear, well you know what happens. … Unfortunately it’s not reasonable for me to chase content around because the release dates are so tentative, and things change daily…plus I actually have a lot more work to do..this blog just happens to be the most high profile part of what I do.
Xbox Live’s Major Nelson : Where is (insert title here)???
