K.I.T.T. to trade Pontiac badge for a Mustang pony?

Reading Jalopnik’s readers’ comments is pretty funny, like the one from Papercutninja, “The Mustang is as technologically advanced as a Trans Am from the ’80s.” And this one from Seth, “It’s like putting the A-Team in Mercedes Sprinter!” But the best might be from SRT8Six, “Maybe the pilot episode will have Michael driving KITT around just so he can figure out where that annoying rattling sound is coming from.”

Our Ultimate Factory

No one takes the Corvette’s fame for granted; that’s why each generation of car is faster and better than the one before. Now, people will get to see how the car is built. And if anyone is deserving of some of that fame Warhol talked about decades ago, it’s our employees who build the engines, transmissions and cars. Ultimate Factories is their moment to shine.

LEAKED! Corvette ZR1 6.2L LS9 V8 sees light of day

We didn’t think we would get a glimpse of it until January at the Detroit Auto Show, but Jalopnik has obtained official photographs of the LS9 V8 that will power the 2009 ZR1 Corvette. The images show that the LS9 is a supercharged version of the 6.2L LS3 V8 like we previously reported. One photo also illustrates in detail a unique integrated twin intercooler that sits atop the supercharger. While it may not have the official name, the blue accents on the engine cover hint at the "Blue Devil" moniker by which we referred the car for some time before switching to the official ZR1 name. While specifications haven’t been released yet (we’re guessing it will offer somewhere in the neighborhood of 650 HP), just seeing the images of the LS9 gets us even more excited for the ZR1’s official debut in January.

Kenseth team engineer Bolin to become crew chief

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Roush Fenway Racing didn’t have to look far to find a new crew chief for Matt Kenseth.

Chip Bolin, the team engineer since 1999, will replace Robbie Reiser after Sunday’s Nextel Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Reiser, the only crew chief Kenseth has known since he came to Cup in ‘99, is replacing Max Jones as the general manager at Roush. Jones is moving to Robert Yates Racing, which has developed an alliance with Roush.
