James Colby has sent in some information about his Classic Mini Jukebox mod. We have seen a couple of similar mods with Mac minis mounted inside classic Mac cases, but James has taken things a step further with some more serious modifications. This includes the use of an ATX power supply. He also did a really nice job with cable management inside the case.

Why I Won’t Buy an iPhone

Why I Won’t Buy an iPhone

Historically Apple’s Macintosh computers have remained relevant because of the ongoing efforts of dedicated, enthusiastic software developers who continued to build great applications even when the size of the Mac-using community was dwindling. Hackers Take Down the Most Wired Country in Europe

Somehow I missed this article from a few weeks ago. It’s quite fascinating.

Hackers Take Down the Most Wired Country in Europe

In the coming months, commentators around the world would look back at this moment and debate its significance. But for Aaviksoo, the meaning was clear. This was not the first botnet strike ever, nor was it the largest. But never before had an entire country been targeted on almost every digital front all at once, and never before had a government itself fought back. "The attacks were aimed at the essential electronic infrastructure of the Republic of Estonia," Aaviksoo tells me later. "All major commercial banks, telcos, media outlets, and name servers — the phone books of the Internet — felt the impact, and this affected the majority of the Estonian population. This was the first time that a botnet threatened the national security of an entire nation."

"In terms of power, the botnet utterly blows the supercomputers away," said Matt Sergeant, chief anti-spam technologist with MessageLabs, in an interview. "If you add up all 500 of the top supercomputers, it blows them all away with just 2 million of its machines. It’s very frightening that criminals have access to that much computing power, but there’s not much we can do about it."

Spam Hunter

Wow. From now on, when anyone asks me why I can’t do more to track down spammers, I’ll show them this article

Spam Hunter - Forbes.com

He started to obsess about who could produce such a spam onslaught without being detected. Then he dug a little, then more, then even more. So began the strangest and most frustrating year of Peterson’s 39-year-long life. In the course of his spam hunt he broke several laws, engaged the help of shadowy hackers, hid months of activity from his wife and boss, neglected work and ended up losing half his annual bonus. He contacted 20 agents in nine government agencies in the U.S., China and India but failed to engage any of them in a serious quest for the culprits.
